Martin Baker
Martin Baker has been the Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral since February 2000. Born in Manchester in 1967 and educated at Chetham’s School of Music and Downing College, Cambridge, Martin Baker held positions at Westminster and St Paul’s Cathedrals before being appointed Sub-Organist of Westminster Abbey at the age of twenty-four. His performances with the Abbey Choir received wide critical acclaim, cementing his reputation as a brilliant organist and dynamic choral conductor. Since his appointment as Master of Music, The Choir of Westminster Cathedral has continued to develop its high profile both in the Roman Catholic Church and in the musical world in general. As a solo organist, Martin Baker is much in demand all over the world, playing frequently in the United States. A specialist in improvisation, his playing is renowned for its verve and spontaneity.
